Foreword by Scott Wright

“How do I become an actor?”  It’s a question I have been asked time and time again, whether its on the train or at a supermarket checkout!

So… how DO you become an actor?

Perhaps you hold the traditional view that attending a good Drama School is important? Maybe you share a more modern belief that it’s simply a case of getting a good audition and landing the role? Sometimes! But how do you actually get the audition in the first place, where does that mysterious phone call come from, and what might they ask of you when you’re there?

I, like many found all these questions difficult to answer. The Drama School’s recommended to me were both expensive, and difficult to get into. This unfortunately limited my options. However, through sheer perseverance and some good fortune I managed to get my foot on the ladder. I started working by discovering an ‘alternative route’.

Whilst the training I received was useful, I discovered to my disadvantage that it was only possible to understand the concepts of Television by appearing on it (Unfortunately most Theatre School students still suffer the same fate today). I believe this to be an unacceptable standard in learning.

I have devised a new course with a strong focus on acting for camera as well as for stage. After all, I’ve spent the majority of my working life doing just that! This time however I want to put you into the driving seat. I want to answer all of your questions and more, and give you the same chance I had in finding a way into the business.

I have combined my experiences with advice of colleagues and friends in the business, plus drafted in some of the UK’s leading Theatre practitioners, along with camera experts to offer to you this ‘alternative route’.

The syllabus has been structured with a defined beginning, middle and end, so that you are not left searching for what you have missed. Our courses are accessible to all people of all genres, ages, abilities, and backgrounds. I will be there with you along the way to steer you in the right direction, and check on your progress, plus answer any questions you may have. You only require a little curiosity and a lot of desire!

Gradually you will work on building your skills and confidence from scratch, moving towards a live performance, featuring in your own DVD showreel or short film, and presenting this to the Industry. Maybe you do not have a desire for stardom, and all you want to do is work on improving your self-confidence. That’s fine, as you’ll be in the right place to do so. I’ve drafted in one of the UK’s leading life-coaches and mediators to help you with nerves and self-confidence. Remember - Acting has to be fun and rewarding, otherwise there’s no point!

I look forward to hearing from you!
